The tomato was put "on trial" on September 25, 1820 in Salem, New Jersey. In front of a courthouse, Robert Johnson ate a basket of tomatoes to prove they were not poisonous. The crowd waited for him to keel over dead. He never did. He lived to a ripe old age...It wasn't until the next century that "tomato paranoia" rose it's ugly head again, in...Attack of the Killer Tomatoes...be afraid...be very afraid...not of tomatoes...that someone in your home will rent this movie.

Tomatoes rule! I think mayonnaise should be put on trial, though. Fattening, nasty, white stuff.
